Epic Games and NVIDIA bring standards-based content synchronisation over IP to virtual production

To improve the lives of those working on the content synchronisation side of in virtual production, the latest version of Unreal Engine, now comes bundled with NVIDIA Rivermax SDK (software development kit).

Rivermax is a unique internet protocol (IP)-based solution for media and data streaming. With the Rivermax plug-in for Unreal Engine, users can now deliver synchronized video over IP and improve manageability of hardware resources.

UE 5.1 x SMPTE ST 2110

SMPTE ST 2110 support in UE 5.1 adds reliable, standards-based digital content distribution over IP networks to the world of virtual production

  • low-latency, ultra-high-bandwidth interconnection between render nodes and external video devices
  • fixed bitrate
  • scheduled delivery
  • packet burst control
  • optimised stage architecture

NVIDIA BlueField data processing units (DPUs) running the NVIDIA DOCA Firefly Service and Rivermax SDK provide accurate timing. Rivermax is the only fully virtualised streaming solution to comply with SMPTE ST 2110’s requirements..

With nDisplay for Unreal Engine, users can combine network configuration data, details about display mechanisms, distribution of rendering, and image displays for large surfaces and screens.

The latest release of Unreal Engine features the new Media I/O Mapping System, which sets the stage for nDisplay render nodes to directly stream to LED wall processors that support SMPTE 2110.
