How they shot ‘Society of the Snow’ (video)

Below, VFX Supervisors Laura Pedro and Felix Berges, writer/director Juan Antonio Bayona and production designer Alain Bainee show us the multi-faceted and layered production of VFX Academy Award-nominated Netflix survival thriller Society of the Snow, which hits UK screens this Thursday, 3 January..

The film tells the true story of the Uruguayan charter flight that crashed in the Andes in 1972 and how 16 of the passengers came out of the ordeal alive. The makers combined scenes shot at various altitudes in Spain’s Sierra Nevada with plates shot in the Andes and scenes shot on a backlot, a green screen stage and in an LED volume, all of which they built near the main Sierra Nevada location.
