11% of global ransomware attacks are directed at the UK

More than 60% of global ransomware attacks are directed at the US and UK, according to a report by Atlas VPN. 52% targeted US organisations, 11% UK-based. Canada and the Rest of The World accounted for the remaining 37%.

Outdated technology and a lack of cybersecurity staff make government departments the ripest of targets. Interconnected educational networks make schools, colleges and universities especially vulnerable. Hospitals and other healthcare organisations that hold sensitive data attract hackers and service businesses that hold lots of personal data on customers have also been hit regularly.
