Netflix starts linear TV trial in France

Internet-only channel Direct will air French, international and US films and series that are already available on the main Netflix service

Netflix chose France for the experiment because the population still watches lots of traditional TV and the company is keen to maintain its advantage over Salto, the French domestic streaming platform that launched in October 2020 and is backed by France Télévisions, TF1 and M6.

“Many viewers like the idea of programming that doesn’t require them to choose what they are going to watch. Whether you are lacking inspiration or whether you are discovering Netflix for the first time, you could let yourself be guided for the first time without having to choose a particular title and let yourself be surprised by the diversity of Netflix’s library.”
