Veritone Voice clone Alan Smith for text-to-speech football commentary

What if you’re a painfully shy sports journalist with fantastic observational and descriptive skills, or your accent or perhaps a speech impediment prevents you from having a career as a football commentator. Never fear, Alan’s here. Using NLP (Neuro-linguistic Processing) algorithms, Veritone Voice have cloned former Arsenal favourite, now expert Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith‘s voice so that it responds to text and speech prompts.

Produce truly lifelike AI voice at unmatched speed and scale. Create content on demand using text-to-speech or speech-to-speech input. Reach new audiences in localized languages with branded voices.

Check out the sample above, which is from the Argentina v France game at Qatar 2022. It’s a bit emotionless and mechanical, but there’s definitely still some real Alan in there. You also have to pick your way through the periods of silence to find his slightly less than dulcet tones, but it’s it’s quite impressive all the same.

Aside from the above, the obvious application for this technology is localisation and internationalisation of content.

The ability to reach audiences around the world in their local language opens up a host of new opportunities for broadcasters and provides Thebes possible experience for the passionate fans. Providing one voice provides consistency for audiences and it’s privilege that the selected voice will be the AI version of mine.
