LG Electronics and Unity have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to create meta-homes, enabling users to spend time in highly accurate ‘digital twins’ of their personal living spaces that include all the LG products in their real homes. For convenience, and, let’s face it, at the moment, a bit of a giggle, adjustments to features and functions made to systems in the meta-home will be mirrored in the real systems
Users will also be able to change the appearance of their homes by moving furniture and appliances around and gather together with other digital humans to share tips and experiences of using LG lifestyle products. Other digital humans supplied by LG will sense when users require assistance, for example with managing the features and functions of a particular appliance. Voice recognition, natural language processing, contextual learning and realistic, situationally appropriate facial expressions and gestures will enable these digital helpers to communicate naturally with users. As you can see from the main image, there’s a long way to go before this level of realism is achieved, but the game is afoot.
