Could new generative AI tool Cuebric revolutionise filmmaking?

One of the more interesting technologies debuting at NAB 2023 in Las Vegas, which starts today, is Cuebric from Seyhan Lee, “a creative-led A.I. production studio founded in 2020 by Pinar Seyhan Demirdag and Gary Lee Koepke“.

Cuebric is being touted as the first comprehensive generative AI system to produce and edit images for film and TV volumes. It uses the Stable Diffusion model to create engaging, camera-ready virtual environments in minutes using a prompt interface that will be familiar to anybody who has already dabbled in generative AI.

A typical prompt

a cinematic well-composed mountain landscape with a river, long exposure, moody, digital art,8K, high contrast, high detail, cinematic lighting, DLSS, smooth unreal engine render, clear octane render, volumetric lighting

Prompts can also include a set of non-desirable attributes to be excluded from the generated image, in brackets.

[blur, cg, lowres, aberration, text, deformation, drawing, noise, grain, amateur, cartoon, render, closeup, collage, mosaic, watermark, person]

Cuebric User Interface

Cuebric processes

  • AI-Based Segmentation—turning two-dimensional images into “2.5D” images with automated shape and depth-based image manipulation;
  • AI Inpainting—automated fill-in of gaps in segmented images with other AI images;
  • Editing—removing unwanted elements of the segmented images;
  • AI Upscaling—converting the image to a higher resolution such as 4K;
  • Exporting—sending the edited, scaled image to a media server for use on a volume stage.

Cuebric images can also be animated.
