World’s first “naked eye” immersive 3D cinema opens in China

Working with the China Film Research Institute and Hainan Yinlong Film and Culture Investment Co., Ltd., Unilumin has opened the world’s first glasses-free immersive 3D cinema experience has opened, in Hall 1 of the Summer Center Cinema in Sanya, Hainan, China. There’s also a separate hall for testing domestic projection systems.

The system in Hall 1 uses the UCINE domestic LED film projection system. Wither side of a 16-metre 4K main screen, multiple Unilumin LED displays synchronise with the signals being sent to the main screen to support screening of immersive, “naked-eye” 3D content, with panoramic sound.

“This is the first immersive LED movie screening hall built in China and even in the world, which highlights my country’s technological accumulation and innovation capabilities in the development of a new generation of digital movie projection systems.”

The claim is also that this is the “first immersive LED cinema (in China) to take full advantage high contrast, high brightness and other technical characteristics of the LED movie projection system, and explores a new viewing mode to achieve naked-eye 3D projection on a flat screen”
