Multi-player gaming platform Roblox has announced a new real-time AI chat translator that will allow its 70 million daily active users to effortlessly communicate in up to 16 different languages. The feature will be available in any Roblox experience.that has enabled the in-experience text chat service.

The chat window will automatically translate text received into recipient’s native language in real time (latency is around 100 milliseconds) without the recipient’s intervention.

The translator is powered by Roblox’s own new unified, transformer-based translation large language model (LLM). It is able to translate a combination of 16 languages to each other in a single model. This is much more efficient than creating individual models that translate every pair, requiring 256 individual models.
