US TV channel operator Sinclair Broadcast Group hit by ransomware attack

The Sinclair Broadcast Group, the US’s second largest TV channel operator, covering 40% of American households, revealed on Monday that a number of its servers and workstations had been encrypted with ransomware, disrupting its back office operations.

A digital forensics company has been hired to investigate the breach. It’s too early to ascertain exactly what data has been affected, but advertising schedules might be hit, which will obviously impact Sinclair’s business, including its financial reporting.
