In May, the Colonial Pipeline operation that carries almost half of the diesel, petrol and jet fuel used on the east coast of the United States was held to ransom for almost a week by cyber criminals. Colonial paid $4.4 million to the hackers to restore regular service.
There are only going to be more of these attacks and businesses need to learn from past exploits to help them understand how to protect themselves.
Companies must invest more in the technology and skills needed to mitigate ransomware risks to avoid losing data – an estimated 100GB in the case of Colonial, it is reported. What are the top things those responsible for information security should be doing t be safe?
