In addition to the 3.8 million homes in Southampton, Manchester, Reading, Birmingham, Coventry, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford and Glasgow already receiving its gigabit broadband service, Virgin Media has announced that it will now be available to almost 3 million homes in the Greater London area.
Amongst other things, it will mean that overall around 45% of Virgin Media’s UK customers will be able to download a 20GB 4K film in about three minutes. The average UK broadband connection would take about fifteen times longer. The plan is to extend the service to all 15 million Virgin Media customers as soon as is feasible. This is good news for anybody working from home who needs the extra grunt, especially ‘power’ users such as content creation and content management professionals.
