For those of you looking for something fun and educational to do in London this Christmas, The Moonwalkers is a new immersive installation at Lightroom that celebrates the NASA moon landings of the early Seventies and takes visitors on a journey all the way to the lunar surface.
The man behind the project, Tom Hanks, narrates the script he co-wrote with Christopher Riley and the show’s co-directors are Nick Corrigan and Lysander Ashton.
Visitors hear commentaries from astronauts old and new, and stunning original NASA footage and breath-taking images are sourced from Collaborating Producer Andy Saunders at Apollo Remastered (above)
Fun fact
Andy Saunders’ painstakingly restored Hasselblad images from the Apollo mission are 11,000 pixels in size. At a resolution of 720 pixels per inch, the optimum monitor size is 152 inches, or 12 feet (diagonal).
Immersive sound is provided by HOLOPLOT and the soundtrack is by Anne Nikitin (pictured above).

- “immersive storytelling” – disguise
“Growing up as humankind was first going to the moon, I was transfixed by the Apollo missions and dreamed of making the voyages with the astronauts. I’ve worked on several projects that have attempted to bring alive the breathtaking scale of going to the moon and the razor-edge drama of each journey, each chapter of Apollo.
The extraordinary and unique production capabilities of Lightroom allow me, alongside Christopher Riley, to tell what we believe is the most visceral and enthralling story to date of humanity’s journeys beyond our earth, including a unique insight into the next time human beings will walk on the moon: the Artemis missions.”
