Everypixel Journal has been able to establish that 15 billion images have been generated by AI tools DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Adobe Firefly in the last year. To put that into context, photography was invented circa 1826 and it took until 1975 for the same number of pictures to be taken conventionally.
- a study by OpenAI has revealed that an estimated 916 million images generated using Dall-E in around 15 months
- Midjourney says that its 15 million registered users create 2.5 million images daily (its server receives 20 to 40 jobs a second), amounting to 964 million images in total since July 2022.
- Separately from its open source applications, which are harder to pin down, Stable Diffusion estimate its own platforms have produced 690 million images
- the multiple companies that use its technology are estimated to have generated more than 12.5 billion images — 80 percent of all AI images created
- 1 billion images were created using Adobe Firefly in its first three months of existence
