This video from day 3 of SIGGRAPH 2023 by the team at the ETC (Entertainment Technology Centre) at the University of Southern California, AKA ETC@USC, shows a demo by Fernando Rivas-Manzaneque and Orlando Avila-Garcia, co-founders of Volinga of real-time rendering of a NeRF in a real virtual production environment, which they claim was a world’s first.
This talk will introduce you to the awesome NeRF technology and their use for Media & Entertainment. We will give an overview on the current state of NeRFs, what are they capable of and what are their limitations. We will also look into the future exploring the most exciting ongoing research. Finally, this talk will give you the tools you need for start using NeRFs, how to capture them and where to use them, using live demos.
vETC is a virtual conference of significant presentations around emerging technologies (e.g., OSVP and ICVFX) and their impact on the M&E industry. Programmed by the Entertainment Technology Center@the USC School of Cinematic Arts and recorded live, speakers present concepts, workflows, business models, and case studies in showcasing disruptive and enabling technologies.
The concept of the vETC series came about in 2015 to fulfill the desire to populate an independent conference for the emerging tech topics while implementing the virtual capabilities by expanding beyond traditional physical conference attendees. It has advanced to cover a wide breadth of mainstream topics providing great insight into early-stage technologies in a TED-talk-style platform. Unlike unrecorded conferences, there is no single audience for this video series – anyone who wishes to catch up can hear from experts right at their personal computers.
