Experimental AI-generated beer ad ‘Synthetic Summer’ is the stuff of nightmares


This is, as somebody said earlier, almost too weird to post here, but it marks something of a watershed – a commercial generated entirely by artificial intelligence with minimal human involvement. According to Chris Boyle, co-founder of the ad’s creators Private Island, it was generated from text prompts using a mixture of Stable Diffusion, Midjourney and ControlNet, which they’ve been experimenting with for the past year.

While almost everything about it is just plain wrong, it’s easy to see how the technology is only going to improve to the point where it can be reliably used to produce acceptable, screenable results.
