In a first for coverage of space events, Meta and the team behind NASA’s Artemis programme collaborated with Vancouver-based VR studio Felix and Paul Studios, cloud-based streaming collaboration company MeetMo.io and aerospace photography experts Flightline Films to stream an up-close, multi-camera view of the 16 November Artemis 1 launch in real-time UHD VR.
Images and sound of the liftoff were simulcast to Meta Horizon Worlds venues. Meta Horizon Worlds is a free app designed to be experienced on Meta Quest VR headsets and is part of Meta Platforms. The launch could also be experienced live on the Space Explorers Facebook page. Full 360-degree streaming platforms were also available via 5G in various locations and planetarium domes worldwide.
